Varadero Beach (or Playa Azul in Spanish) is one of the most beautiful stretches of beach in the world. The beach is located in the Matanza province of Cuba and is about 140 kilometres from the capital Havana. Varadero is situated on the famous Hicacos Peninsula which is at the end of the Via Bianca motorway. The peninsula lies between the Straits of Florida and is very narrow and has often been described as a needle pointing to the sea.
The beach stretches for an impressive 36 kilometres and is one of the most important beach resort areas in the Caribbean. There are a number of tourist activities available at Varadero Beach with diving and water sports enthusiasts able to find several dive centres on the
peninsula offering scuba diving tutorials, snorkelling classes and other water sports lessons.
There are many marinas that allow fishing in the area and the most popular catch in the Varadero area is the billfish. Visitors to this area will be able to swim with the dolphins and can also visit the submarine park.
Getting to Varadero Beach, Cuba
To get to Varadero Beach, visitors can either choose to drive down or fly in to the Juan Gualberto Gomez Airport, which caters to both domestic and international airlines.
