My Holiday Experience on the Cuban Islands (News 2011)

I recently visited the Cuban islands for a two week break with my partner. I had never visited South America prior to this visit and was extremely excited at experiencing this alien culture. Needless to say, I was not disappointed. I had heard that the Cuban people are traditionally extremely polite to strangers as a sign of respect, but never did I expect the treatment that I Cuban islands experiencereceived.

I expected to experience certain levels of hostility as the locals become accustomed to ever rising number of visitors who arrive on the islands every year, but I can genuinely say that I never experienced anything but pleasantries.

Although I was based on the main island of Cuba, I went on numerous excursions to the Cuban Islands. I had read that some of the Cuban Islands contain all inclusive resorts, and although these are fabulous destinations for some people, it was not what I was looking for. I visited 2 islands which are not associated with all inclusive resorts. On my first trip I spent a few days island hopping around Colorados Archipelago, where there is a flourishing fishing industry.

I had a marvellous time enjoying the sandy white beaches and snorkelling off the coast.
During my second visit I went to Cayo Coko and made sure that I visited El Baga Nature Park. Whilst at the park I had the privilege of experiencing flamingos in their natural environment as well as taking an enjoyable visit through Baga Forest, which was an unexpected aspect to my holiday.

Overall, my visit to the Cuban Islands was a diverse and enjoyable experience which surpassed all of my expectations.
