Best Hotels by Varadero Beach, Cuba

We talked about the best hotels in the Malecon part of Havana in the last hotels post so this time we focus on an area outside of the capital in one of the most popular beach areas and resort areas in Cuba, Varadero Beach.

Varadero Beach

Below are 5 of the best hotels which I have experienced in Varadero and which I feel are worth serious consideration if you are staying in this area.

Varadero Introduction

What isn’t there to like about Varadero Beach? Miles of stunning white sandy Caribbean beaches, glorious weather, beach parties (for those who desire them) and great whether you are a couple, family, single traveller.

Personally, I think Varadero, when combined with 3, 5 or 7 days also in Havana, makes for a really fascinating all-around holiday or vacation. Havana for its history and culture and Varadero beach for pure relaxation.

What can you expect to see here?

  • Coconut trees
  • Beach bars
  • Warm Caribbean water as you dip into the sea
  • Plenty of water-sports and activity options for those of you who enjoy an active sporty holiday.
  • Local reefs and fishing
  • Golf courses nearby
  • A beach long enough for long daily walks

Hotel Choices

I have stayed in Varadero over a dozen times and I try and experience different accommodation options to get a taste for the different standards. 5 of my favourites to date are listed below.

Hotel Blau Varadero

(Carretera de Las Morlas) – A lovely hotel which is perhaps my favourite in Varadero and the friendly and always very helpful Jose Maria, does a great job managing this hotel.

Jose does a brilliant job keeping all of the facilities running smoothly (you will no doubt see him as he seems to pop up everywhere).

My wife loves fresh fish and the buffet restaurant in the hotel is excellent and does a great job whether you are looking for Cuban, Mexican or more Western-style food.

This hotel was extremely clean both times I stayed here, the pool area is very pleasant.

This is a 5-star hotel and you really do get five-star service in the genuine sense and I cannot recommend this hotel enough.

Popular with honeymooners and wedding groups.

Iberostar Varadero

Another great option and one I have also stayed in twice and both times I had an excellent stay.

This is an all-inclusive resort hotel and the rooms I found to be very spacious, a good selection of restaurants, excellent location and nice pool area.

We found the food to be very good in the Ambrosio buffet restaurant, which is inside the main building and some interesting entertainment was put on during our stay.

Make sure also to try the spa area by the way! I will return for sure.

Hotel Melia Marina Varadero

As you may have gathered by now, there are a number of very high-quality hotels in the Varadero Beach area.

I stayed in this hotel whilst there for a 3-day conference and I have to say that the facilities for exhibition and conferences is excellent.

Great venue if you want to organise an event, but equally as good if you are just looking to stay here as a tourist and interested in a very good hotel by the marina and within walking distance of the main beach.

The bar was open 24 hours a day so plenty of time to try the Cuban cocktails.

The hotel was very clean, the staff very attentive and just an overall great experience.

Hotel Occidental Allegro Varadero, Cuba

One of the Occidental chain hotels, if you are a fan of this brand, then you will find that the Occidental Varadero matches and meets the level of the brand that you would expect.

Plenty of its own bars, restaurants and snack bars (I especially loved the Restaurante Marinero).

If you are planning on getting married in Cuba, this is a good choice because they have a dedicated wedding and honeymoon team.
