Where is Cayo Coco

Off Cuba’s north coast is the island of Cayo Coco, an island that also offers fantastic scuba diving and beaches of blisteringly white sand.

The sea is warm and clear and rich with marine life.

The local bird population is equally impressive and includes pink flamingos, pelicans, and mocking birds.

There are several excellent white sandy beaches in Cayo Coco and a number of all-inclusive holiday resorts are located in this area.

The location also offers you the chance for many interesting attractions to visit when taking a break from the beach with things to see and do including:

  • Relax on the Jungle Cruise
  • Visit the Crocodile Farm
  • Visit a real Cuban Cigar Factory

Cayo Coco Beach offers some amazing coral reefs and Scuba Diving is a great way to see and to gain an appreciation for the island.

The waters are transparent blue and with a causeway that is roughly 12 miles long, this is a real tropical paradise.

Weddings and Honeymoon

This island is also perfect if you are looking to get married in Cuba.

The beach and setting are both idyllic and intimate and given that this is a location which has been adapted for tourists, they are used to organize weddings and accepting honeymooners and their visitors.

You can get married on a beautiful beach, stay in a luxury hotel, enjoy a wonderful wedding buffet on the beach and it is all quite affordable in terms of world beach locations (as long as you can get an affordable flight of course).

As a wedding and honeymoon location, Cayo Coco can be the perfect location.

Where to Stay in Cayo Coco

Your best option of planning to stay in Cayo Coco is to either book a package holiday to the island, or you can book your own flights and hotel individually.

Three of my favorite hotels on the island are as follows:

Tryp Cayo Coco (Ave. Los Hoteles)

This 4-star hotel has its own beach and is a hotel I love staying in. Literally meters from the beach.

This hotel also has a buffet every evening with a good choice of foods to suit all tastes.

Great location, great service and I’ll be back!

Melia Cayo Coco

A stunning 5-star hotel that I have stayed in once and which made me feel like a king and my wife a queen.

A world-class hotel, with outstanding cuisine, the best possible service, and a great location.

I cannot recommend this hotel highly enough, if you are looking for pure luxury and if your budget permits.

Melia Jardines del Rey (Playa Flamenco)

The largest hotel in Cuba, this hotel has some of the best facilities of any hotel in Cuba and certainly on Cayo Coco.

Facilities include a spa, its own nightclub, several bars (including a pool bar), and a choice of restaurants.

The white sandy beach is everything you would want in the Caribbean and the combination of great facilities (in particular the food) make this another top option.

The three hotels above are all hotels I have stayed in myself and which I can thus personally recommend.

Each of these hotels, as with most hotels in Cayo Coco, cater specifically to international tourists and they tend to speak or have someone who can communicate in languages such as English, French, German and Spanish.
