Museo del Chocolate in Havana

One attraction which I visit at least once a year whilst in Havana and absolutely love is the Museo del Chocolate which is based on Mercaderes Street, which is roughly 15 minutes walk from the ‘Playas del Este’ tourist bus stop.

About the Chocolate Museum

Rather than just being a museum as the name would suggest, it is really more of a chocolate tasting shop.

You will have the chance to try all the different chocolates which are made here and many of which are unique.

Milk tends to be in relatively short supply in Cuba hence the milk chocolate is a little different from what you might expect in the UK with a brand such as Cadbury’s.

In addition to trying out the chocolate and seeing the paraphernalia, you can see how chocolate is made.

This attraction tends to get very busy so be prepared for a small wait if need be.

Chocolate Worth Trying

The ‘aztec hot chocolate’ is worth trying and my personal favorite with the addition of cinnamon and pepper included to give it its bitter and very special flavour.

The cold chocolate drink with honey is also delicious and all drinks are very reasonably priced.

You can also buy chocolates including figurines and bags of chocolate.

It is a wonderful place just to hang out and relax in, once you do manage to get an available table. As well as the chocolate, the building itself is quite interesting and typical of Havana’s old architecture.

When visiting just expect to see a chocolate drink store rather than a full-on museum and you will not be disappointed.

Every time you walk past this place in the daytime you will notice that it is busy and there is a reason why!

Make sure to give the ‘Museo del Chocolate’ a visit when you are in Havana next!
